Edward Scott, a former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Bill Clinton, died on November 25. He was 72. The Somers Point resident was the Democratic Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee under Senator Alan Cranston.
Sharon Caffey, who worked as the confidential assistant to the New Jersey Commissioner of Transportation for 18 years, died on December 17. She was 51. Caffey worked at the DOT for 33 years.
Anthony Buttino, the former business agent and president of the Hudson County Carpenters Local 6 and vice president of the Hudson County Building Trades, died on December 16. He was 77.
Thomas Kelly, a former Orange city attorney, died on December 18. A retired U.S. Marine Corps captain, Kelly ran twice for the Orange City Council and helped elect the city’s first black councilman.
Edward Christiansen, a former Estell Manor councilman and public safety director, died on December 10. He was 75.
Elisa Jambor, who served as a secretary to Moonachie Municipal Court Judge Louis Avolio, died on December 20. She was 98.
Michael Whalen, Sr., a former Secaucus council candidate, died on December 12. He was 93. Whalen had twice challenged Third Ward Councilman Augustus Hubert.
Bob Hayden, who served on the Absecon Board of Education and the local planning and Zoning boards, died on December 13. He was 92. Hayden served in the U.S. Marines during World War II.
George Loehwing, Jr., a former president of the Hawthorne Republican Club, died on December 21. He was 81.
