Ken Heinis, the father of Hudson County View editor John Heinis, died on June 10 after a 4 ½ year battle with mesothelioma. He was 68. “His toughness was unparalleled,” his son said in a tweet. “Most people consider me a fighter, and I am, but I hope I never have to fight as hard as he did.”
Michael Eberly Vail Levinsky, the first woman to serve as mayor of Medford Lakes, died of July 6, She was 77. Levinsky was elected to the borough council in 1982 and was mayor from 1986 to 1990. She supported a 1996 Constitutional amendment to prohibit unfunded mandates. She as the mother of Burlington County Times reporter David Levinsky.
