Gene Ritchings, who founded the Ocean County Young Republican Club in the 1940’s, passed away on March 15. He was 91. Ritchings ran for the State Assembly twice in the 1950’s in GOP primaries against incumbent Lettie Savage. He ran local campaigns in Point Pleasant and in Ocean County for decades and was the president of the Independent Voter League, which worked to oust longtime Point Pleasant Mayor Ralph Carlson in 1956. He served on the Ocean County Board of Elections and the Point Pleasant Republican County Committee.
