Governor orders flags lowered to honor Jimmy Carter

By David Wildstein, December 31 2024 1:15 pm

U.S. and New Jersey flags will fly at half-staff until sundown on January 28 in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday at age 100.

Gov. Phil Murphy issued an executive order earlier today.

“President Jimmy Carter embodied the belief that public service is a lifelong calling,” said Murphy. “He dedicated his life to charitable efforts, striving to improve the lives of people around the globe. We thank President Carter for his service to our nation and offer our heartfelt prayers for his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

This was Murphy’s second executive order following the death of an American President: he did so in December 2018 following the death of President George H.W. Bush.
