Former councilman, environmental advocate die

James Philbin, Sr., a former Deptford Township Committeeman, passed away on December 2.  He was 74.  He served in the U.S. Maine Corps and was elected councilman in 1967 as part of a team of Democrats allied with Kenneth Gewertz, who later became mayor and assemblyman.

Linda Wellman-Stansfield, who served as New Jersey State Coordinator for the National Clean Air Coalition, died on November 5. She served on the New Jersey Clean Air Council for seven years and was chair from 1990 to 1992.  She also served on the Mountain Lakes Environmental Commission and on the Planning Board.
