Veteran lobbyist Dale Florio has released the following statement on the death of former Gov. Richard J. Codey:
“All the accolades for Governor Codey are well deserved. Honestly, I didn’t know that Governor Codey was an elected official. I thought he was a basketball coach. All my conversations with him centered around youth, high school and college basketball. It was a passion.
Both of us were avid coaches. That’s all we talked about. In fact, he brought his team to Montgomery to play my team one year and he beat us by couple. Needless to say the Governor didn’t sit down once throughout the game.
The love of the game, his interest in the lives of his players on and off the court, was infectious. Governor Codey took great pride in where his former players went and what they accomplished.
What he did for his players and their families is a big part of his legacy that won’t grab headlines but the impact is signifiant.
