Walter Nall appointed acting deputy VA commissioner

Director of the Division of Veterans Services heads state veterans homes after Piterski resignation

Retired Army Col. Walter Nall will serve as acting deputy commissioner of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in the wake of former Army Gen. Mark Piterski’s resignation.

Nall has served as director of the Division of Veterans Services since February 2018.

Before that, he spent six years as superintendent of Veterans Haven South, a transitional housing program for veterans in Southern New Jersey.

Nall spent 32 years in the U.S. Army, serving from 1983 to 2016.

He was deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the 42nd Division Support Command.

In 2011, Nall was deployed to Afghanistan as the Commander of the 119th Logistical Task Force.
