Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy will host a high-dollar fundraiser in New Jersey next week to boost the coffers of Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams in one of the most hotly contested state races of the year.
Tammy Murphy has emerged as one of the nation’s top Democratic fundraisers. Phil Murphy is the vice chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and will assume the top post for a second time next year.
Abrams, the former minority leader of the Georgia State House of Representatives, trails Republican Gov. Brian Kemp by four percentage points, 48%-44%, in an Emerson College poll released last week, a race that is just within the margin of error. This is a rematch of the 2018 campaign, which Kemp won by 54,723 votes, 50%-49%.
Tickets range from $1,000 to $10,000 with host status and a private reception. The location has not yet been disclosed. Proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the One Georgia Leadership Committee.
Last year, while Murphy was seeking re-election, Abrams came to New Jersey for the signing of a bill establishing early in-person voting in the state.
