Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s administration will announce today that about 220 noncitizens had registered to vote — and had a history of voting in New Jersey — before an alleged computer glitch at the Motor Vehicle Commission.
The administration is also expected to disclose that the state Division of Elections is removing roughly 5,100 noncitizens from the voter rolls. Those registrations were allegedly triggered by the glitch, even though the individuals told the MVC they were not U.S. citizens.
Additionally, the governor’s office is expected to reveal that about 340 noncitizens voted in at least one election after being registered because of the alleged glitch.
The registrations of approximately 1,450 people believed to be noncitizens will be referred to county election officials for further review. Their registrations will be marked as rejected in the state system but will not be deleted at this time.
Sherrill previously announced that approximately 6,600 noncitizens had been registered to vote and that fewer than 400 had cast ballots.
