Hunterdon County GOP Chairman Gabe Plumer joined the ranks of Republicans backing Jack Ciattarelli for the party’s gubernatorial nod Friday.
“We have a tremendous opportunity as Republicans to begin the gubernatorial campaign early and unite against Governor Murphy,” Plumer said. “Jack Ciattarelli is a proven leader that has what it takes to fix the challenges we face in New Jersey. He is going to be our Republican nominee and it is essential that we as party leaders across the state coalesce behind him now to provide the best opportunity for success in November.”
Ciattarelli, a former assemblyman, already has the endorsements of Republican chairs in Bergen, Ocean, Cumberland, Atlantic, Somerset, Burlington, Essex, Gloucester, Passaic and Salem Counties.
Many of those came after former Republican State Chairman Doug Steinhardt abruptly dropped his gubernatorial campaign on Monday. Perennial candidate Hirsh Singh and businessman Joseph Rudy Rullo are also seeking the GOP nod.
The Hunterdon chair’s endorsement isn’t particularly shocking. County Clerk Mary Melfi, Sheriff Fred Brown and Commissioners Shaun van Doren, Susan Soloway, John Lanza and Matt Holt had already endorsed him.
“New Jersey cannot afford another four years of Governor Phil Murphy,” Plumer said. “With a failed vaccine rollout, disastrous long-term care facility policies, unconstitutional borrowing with little to show for it, and small businesses closing at record numbers, it is clear that his failed policies and executive overreach are crippling our residents in Hunterdon County and across the state of New Jersey.”
