A new super PAC, led by the chairman of a different committee backing Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, said in filings it expects to spend $1.5 million in the Democratic primary this year.
The committee was filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission on Monday.
Workers for a Better New Jersey is led by Drew Nussbaum, according to the filing. Nussbaum also chairs the Coalition for Progress super PAC, which is backing Fulop and his slate of Assembly candidates.
A phone call to the committee was not answered.
The Coalition for Progress said in February that it had $11 million cash on hand, although that’s been diminished by spending ion support of Fulop’s bid for the Democratic nomination for governor.
Fulop has pledged to spend $10 million to help down-ballot candidates he has recruited to run on his slogan.
Candidates who opt in to the public matching funds are limited to spending $8.7 million on the primary. Super PACs face no spending cap.
