New Jersey Globe’s Joey Fox headed to Ireland with governor

New Jersey Globe political reporter Joey Fox will accompany Gov. Phil Murphy on his official visit to Ireland next week.

He will be the only journalist to join Murphy and a delegation of New Jerseyans on the three-day economic development trip, which is set to include meetings with Irish government officials and business leaders.

Old media stalwarts like the Star-Ledger and Gannett, facing financial difficulties and budget cuts, will not send any of their reporters on the Ireland trip.  That cedes exclusive coverage to the New Jersey Globe, which was launched in 2018.

This is Murphy’s first official international trip since his trade mission to India in September 2019,  six months before the coronavirus pandemic.

Murphy’s grandmother, Eleanor, and several of his great-grandparents were born in Ireland.

The governor’s grandfather, John W. Murphy, served as an Alderman representing Newton, Massachusetts’ first ward from 1910 to 1918.

The 22-year-old Fox joined the New Jersey Globe last August.
