New Jersey voters have already cast 466,681 votes in the 2025 primary election, including 333,294 Democrats and 133,294 Republicans, in advance of the election through Sunday, according to an analysis by Ryan Dubicki, an Associated Press election researcher.
That brings the turnout so far for Democrats to 13.6% and 8% for Republicans. Those numbers don’t include previously unaffiliated voters who declared a party affiliation by voting in the primary.
Six days of in-person early voting attracted 89,951 Democrats and 58,728 Republicans.
Democrats have returned 243,061 vote-by-mail ballots and have a return rate of 47.1%. Republicans have returned 42.8% of mail-in ballots with a total of 74,566. There are 272,718 VBMs still outstanding for Democrats and 99,729 for Republicans.
Middlesex County Democrats have cast the most advance votes in the state, 37,577, overtaking Camden, which had led on Saturday but is now at 36,639. They are followed by Bergen (27,839) and Essex (26,987).
Monmouth County Republicans have cast the highest number of advance votes in the state (18,690), followed by Ocean (17,723) and Morris (17,090).
In the 32nd legislative district, where six Democrats are facing off for two State Assembly seats, 7,065 advance votes have been cast, including 3,587 in-person early votes and 3,478 vote-by-mail ballots. Democrats have a VBM return rate in the Jersey City/Hoboken district of 39.6%.
In the 31st district, where two incumbents are on different slates in a four-way Assembly contest, Democrats have cast 6,056 advance votes; in the 33rd district, where GOTV King Brian P. Stack is on the prowl, Democrats have cast 11,953 votes.
Democrats in the 28th have cast 6,693 advance votes, and 4,828 Democrats in the 35th have already voted. In District 37, advance turnout 9,016 votes. The Camden-based 6th district 18,426 Democrats have already voted, the most in the state.
In the 39th district, where two incumbent GOP assemblymen face a tough primary challenge from ex-congressional candidate Frank Pallotta, 3,671 Republican votes have been cast.
