Murphy taps Brown for Health Care authority seat

Newark water director nominated for North Jersey District Water Commission

Gov. Phil Murphy today nominated David G. Brown III, the Monmouth County Democratic Chairman, to the New Jersey Health Care Facilities Financing Authority.

He replaces M. Ulysses Lee, who has served in the post since 2007.  Gov. Chris Christie sought to replace Lee in 2010, but eventually withdrew the nomination of David Knowlton for the post.

Brown, who was re-elected county chairman this week without opposition, was first elected to the post in 2017 when Vin Gopal resigned to run for the State Senate.  He is one of three Black county chairs in New Jersey.

A former aide to Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Brown served as executive director of the Linden-Roselle Sewerage Authority before becoming business administrator in Bradley Beach.

Murphy also nominated Kareen Adeem, the director of the Newark Water and Sewer Department, to a seat on the North Jersey District Water Commission.

In that post, Adeem has managed Newark’s response to the lead exceedance issue.
