With two days left before Election Day, Linden Mayor Derek Armstead has endorsed Sean Spiller for the Democratic nomination for governor.
“New Jersey needs bold leaders like Sean Spiller who aren’t afraid to stand up to the big special interests and wealthy insiders,” said Armstead. “Sean has spent his life taking on big fights on behalf of students, teachers, seniors, and working people from every corner of the state. He doesn’t back down, he doesn’t give up, and as governor, I know he will make New Jersey a stronger, safer, and more affordable place to live for everyone.”
Spiller, the president of the New Jersey Education Association and a former mayor of Montclair,
Raymond Lesniak, a former state senator and Democratic state chairman, also endorsed Spiller.
“Mayor Armstead is a strong advocate of fairness, equal educational and economic opportunities for all Linden residents – as will be Governor Spiller.”
Armstead sought the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 10th district in 2024 in a special primary following the death of Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark). LaMonica McIver defeated him by 34 percentage points in an 11-candidate field. Armstead lost the Union County portion of the district by ten points.
“As a teacher, coach, immigrant, and former mayor, I’m proud to have the support of a strong leader like Mayor Armstead, who has been leading the fight for fairness and opportunity in Linden,” Spiller stated. “Together, we’re going to elect a Governor who will make New Jersey more affordable, give a real voice to working people, and protect the fundamental rights of every New Jerseyan from bullies like Donald Trump.”
