Jon Bramnick’s campaign for the Republican nomination for governor continues to confound expectations, picking up the endorsement of a diehard conservative, pro-life GOP municipal chairman from Somerset County.
Warren Township GOP Chairman Dan Gallic said he’s backing Bramnick, a moderate two-term state senator, to unite Republicans behind a candidate who can win a general election.
“Collaboration is essential, even with those we might disagree with on key issues,” said Gallic, the vice president of the Watchung Hills Regional school board. “Bramnick’s commitment to his constituents, along with his accessibility, has consistently impressed me. He’s intelligent, competent, and i am confident he will consider conservative viewpoints in his decision-making. No other candidate offers this assurance.”
Gallic said that the “one-party dominance in Trenton has pushed extreme left-wing policies,”
“It’s time to bring back balance to our government, and Jon Bramnick is the leader who can achieve this,” Gallic stated “Our party must return to its core values, emphasizing smaller government reduced taxes, and enhanced safety, reminiscent of (Ronald) Reagan’s vision for America.”
Gallic hasn’t always been on Bramnick’s side. In 2003, he ran against Bramnick in a special election convention for State Assembly; Gallic came in fourth.
The endorsement of a single municipal chairman is typically unimportant, but Bramnick appears prepared to pick off conservatives in key areas. As a legislator with a block of Somerset municipalities in his district, Bramnick is expected to compete for the Somerset County GOP organization line against favorite son Jack Ciattarelli. Earlier this year, he was asked to swear in another conservative, Toms River Mayor Dan Rodrick.
