Additional reopening guidance coming in ‘the next few days,’ Murphy says

Gov. Phil Murphy said he expects to issue additional guidelines for the reopening of non-essential businesses whose renewed operations won’t happen until the second and third stages of his reopening plan.

“On guidelines on retail, bear with us in the next couple of days, I’m not sure it’s going to be tomorrow but sometime in the next few days, I think we’re going to clarify pretty much what the answer to that question,” Murphy said Thursday.

While non-essential retail businesses have been allowed to operate via curbside pickup, many firms — including personal care businesses like salons and barbershops — remain closed to the public.

While New Jersey has managed to double its testing capacity before the end of May, movement on other benchmarks Murphy outline in his reopening plan has been slower.

The state is still hiring contact tracers, and there has been little information when further restrictions will be eased.
