A debate between the two Republican candidates for State Senate in the 3rd district will go on tonight on The Matt Rooney Show live on WPHT 1210 AM even though incumbent Ed Durr has not agreed to participate.
Durr’s primary opponent, Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer, will debate an empty chair in the studio tonight.
“Still time for the Trucker,” Rooney said today “Plenty of parking.”
The debate will be livestreamed to YouTube. Click here: youtube.com/@1210WPHT. Rooney’s show airs from 7-10 PM.
Durr, the truck driver who unseated Senate President Steve Sweeney in 2021, is seeking a second term. But a party split in South Jersey led to Sawyer, who ousted ten-term Democratic Assemblyman John Burzichelli two years ago, eschewing a re-election bid and instead challenging Durr in the Republican primary.
The winner will likely take on Burzichelli, who is seeking a return to Trenton, this time as a senator.
