The retirement of Assemblyman David Wolfe (R-Brick) could trigger a mayoral bid by a former aide to Rep. Mike Ferguson.
Point Pleasant Beach mayor Stephen Reid said yesterday that he plans to seek the Republican nomination for Assembly in the 10th district seat Wolfe is giving up after 28 years.
If Reid get the Assembly nod, councilman Paul Kanitra says he will run for mayor. He has the backing of three former mayors.
Kanitra owns a Washington, D.C. lobbying firm and won a council seat in 2017 – on his second try. He ran in 2002, age 22, and lost to Trenton veteran Monica Walsh by just 169 votes.
