Grewal clears Suarez

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez was not involved in the investigation of Al Alvarez on allegations that he sexually assaulted a volunteer campaign worker during Phil Murphy’s 2017 run for governor, Attorney General Gurbir Grewal said in a letter to legislative leaders.

Grewal said the Office of Public Integrity & Accountability conducted a review of Suarez’s role in the probe after Katie Brennan told prosecutors that she was raped by Alvarez..

Brennan is expected to appear before a joint legislative committee investigating the Murphy administration’s hiring of Alvarez next week.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor has reopened the Alvarez investigation.

Grewal’s review was conducted by the newly-created Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.
