Winder raises another $141k for NJ-2 campaign

Ex-USAID official has raised more than $450k overall

Bayly Winder announced today that his campaign for New Jersey’s 2nd congressional district has raised another $141,000, putting him at more than $450,000 raised overall since entering the race in June – a solid total in what’s still a reach district for Democrats.

Winder, a former USAID official, said he has $231,000 on-hand for his race against Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis), who won his last two elections in his South Jersey district by double digits.

“This campaign is being built the right way – from the ground up,” Winder said in a statement. “More than 2,200 people have chipped in since we launched because they believe it’s time for new leadership that actually listens and fights for working families. I don’t take a cent of corporate PAC money. This kind of grassroots support shows there’s a real groundswell in this district, and it’s what will power us all the way to victory.”

Three other Democrats are running for the 2nd district, but none of them have found nearly the same fundraising success that Winder has. Tim Alexander, the nominee for the seat in 2022 and some local party leaders’ preferred candidate once again this year, had raised just $17,000 as of the end of September, though he said that was because he wasn’t focusing on fundraising until after New Jersey’s state-level elections had concluded.

Van Drew has not yet filed his 4th quarter fundraising reports, but as of his last filing, he had more than $1 million on hand to defend his seat.
