The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) has endorsed Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill (D-Montclair) for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district, yet another showing of Gill’s labor support in the district’s special election.

“Brendan Gill has a long and proven track record of fighting for Essex County families and standing firmly with the working class,” Max Bruny, the chairman of the UFCW District Council of New York and New Jersey, said in a statement. “Throughout his career, he has shown up for workers and delivered real results for the communities he serves. We need someone with Brendan’s commitment, integrity, and experience in Congress. UFCW is proud to stand with him.”

The UFCW represents 1.2 million workers in the grocery, food processing, hotel, restaurant, and health care industries.

Other labor unions who have joined Team Gill in the race to succeed Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill include the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Local 25, IBEW Local 164 and Local 1158, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers New Jersey State Legislative Board, the Communication Workers of America Local 1031, and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 108.
