The Communication Workers of America Local 1031 has endorsed Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill (D-Montclair)’s bid to succeed Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill in Congress.

“CWA Local 1031 is proud to endorse our friend Brendan Gill for Congress,” CWA Local 1031 President Kathleen Hernandez said in a statement. “Brendan is the candidate in the race that union members know will fight for them, here in New Jersey and in Washington, DC.”

The broader CWA is among the state’s most influential – and politically progressive – unions; Gill’s endorsement today comes from one of its many New Jersey local branches.

Gill, who faces nearly a dozen Democratic opponents in the yet-to-be-scheduled special election for the 11th congressional district, has been steadily racking up union support. He was endorsed last week by the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association, and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union Local 108.
