Warren GOP chair makes endorsement in increasingly splintered primary

State Sen. Doug Steinhardt (R-Lopatcong), the chairman of the Warren County GOP, has endorsed Alex Zdan for U.S. Senate, giving Zdan a boost ahead of the Warren Republican convention later this month.

“I am happy to support Alex Zdan for U.S. Senate,” Steinhardt said in a statement last night. “We need strong leaders to counter the far left takeover of the Democrat Party.”

Zdan, a former News 12 reporter turned conservative activist, is one of the Republican frontrunners seeking the nomination against U.S. Senator Cory Booker. In recent weeks, Zdan has gotten official party endorsements in Burlington and Passaic Counties, and has also been endorsed by GOP chairs in Essex and Sussex.

Two other GOP candidates have also gotten some party support, raising the likelihood of a splintered primary that won’t be resolved until June: state trooper Richard Tabor has endorsements in Hunterdon, Atlantic, Union, and Hudson Counties, and former Tabernacle Committeeman Justin Murphy has the backing of the Camden and Gloucester GOP.
