The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey Council and the Sierra Club have endorsed Rep. Albio Sires for re-election in New Jersey’s 8th district
SEIU and the Sierra Club join nine other organizations that announced their support of Sires this week.
“From fighting for a higher national minimum wage, to sponsoring legislation to make the federal government address climate change by following the steps outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement, I’m proud to be a leader in these two crucial areas,” said Sires. “I thank both of these outstanding organizations for their continued support.”
The Hudson County Democrat is seeking his ninth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He won a November 2006 special election to replace Bob Menendez, who had been appointed to the U.S. Senate.
“Both the SEIU and the Sierra Club understand that we need Democrats in Congress who will fight for economic and environmental justice, and I’m very proud to earn their support due to my record on these two crucial issues,” Sires stated.
Sires faces a challenge in the July 7 primary election from Will Sheehan and Hector Oseguera.
