Serrano Glassner gets endorsement from Hudson GOP chair

Mendham mayor likely secures party line in county with 3% of GOP voters statewide

Hudson GOP chairman Jose Arango has endorsed Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner for the United States Senate, making him the second county chair to back Serrano Glassner’s Senate campaign.

“Christine is a supremely qualified conservative candidate, and I am proud to support her,” Arango said in a statement. “She is by far the most serious Republican in this race, and I strongly urge the party to consolidate support behind her. Democrats have put forward a weak roster of candidates, and while they cannibalize themselves in an ugly primary, we need to unite behind Christine.”

Arango’s endorsement likely means that Serrano Glassner will have the organizational line in Hudson County, a solidly blue county that’s home to around 3% of the state’s registered Republicans. Arango is also the chairman of the statewide GOP County Chair Association, though that role has little bearing on individual county party endorsements.

Serrano Glassner had previously gotten substantial party backing in her home county of Morris, where GOP chair Laura Marie Ali and a number of local officeholders have endorsed her campaign. For now, Serrano Glassner remains the only major declared Republican candidate in the race, though others – including developer Curtis Bashaw, former News12 reporter Alex Zdan, and Melinda Ciattarelli – are weighing potential bids as well.

The Senate seat is currently held by indicted Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, who is extremely unlikely to win renomination if he runs again; the eventual GOP nominee will instead likely face either Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) or First Lady Tammy Murphy.
