Report: Menendez sets up legal defense fund

By David Wildstein, April 17 2023 9:00 pm

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez has set up a legal defense fund to pay expenses related to a federal investigation, WNBC-TV reported today.

The report says that Menendez spent about $175,000 on lawyers after the Southern District of New York initiated a probe last year.   He spent another $50,000 on a document search firm.

The WNBC report quoted the senators’ spokeswoman saying that Menendez “is confident that this official inquiry will be successfully closed, but as it is still unresolved, he will be opening a separate legal defense fund so as not to drain any further campaign funds.”

Menendez filed with nearly $5.9 million cash-on-hand for his re-election campaign next year.
