Menendez gets endorsement from Latino Victory Fund

8th district is state’s sole majority-Hispanic district

The Latino Victory Fund, a nationwide progressive Latino advocacy group, announced yesterday that they are backing Port Authority commissioner Rob Menendez for the 8th congressional district.

“Rob is the son of dedicated public servants and the grandson of brave Cuban immigrants,” Latino Victory Fund president Nathalie Rayes said in a statement. “He has a deep understanding of the issues facing our community, and he will be a strong advocate for the Latino community in Washington.”

The 8th district, which includes most of Hudson County as well as Elizabeth and parts of Newark, is the only Hispanic-majority congressional district in the state. Menendez’s father, now-Senator Bob Menendez, was the state’s first-ever Latino member of Congress when he was elected in 1992.

The younger Menendez is considered the heavy favorite to win the Democratic nomination against healthcare startup director David Ocampo Grajales and Amistad Commission member Ane Roseborough-Eberhard this June. In addition to having the support of virtually every local and state Democrat, Menendez was also endorsed by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC, the campaign arm of Hispanic Democrats in Congress.
