The Hudson County Central Labor Council has endorsed Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-Newark) for re-election in New Jersey’s 10th district.
“Time and time again, Congressman Payne has proven himself a champion for working people and a stalwart ally of the labor movement,” stated Hudson County Central Labor Council President Barry Kushnir. “He will continue to fight for our right to organize, for better wages, for safer working conditions, and for crucial legislative priorities like the PRO Act.”
Payne, who was first elected in 2012, has been running the table on labor union endorsements in a contested Democratic primary against Essex County College professor Akil Khalfani and mountebank challenger Imani Oakley. He’s won the backing of the Communications Workers of America, AFSCME NJ, the New Jersey Education Association, Laborers’ International Union of North America, and the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association.
The working families of Hudson County are the backbone of our community, and I will always stand with our labor family,” Payne said. “Together, we will continue to invest in people, to create good paying, union jobs, and to bring the resources and opportunities back to Hudson County, the 10th Congressional District, and the great state of New Jersey.”
Payne’s district includes parts of Hudson, Essex and Union counties.
