Democratic congressional candidate Rob Menendez has picked up the endorsement of the Hudson County Central Labor Council as he seeks to succeed retiring Rep. Albio Sires (D-West New York) in New Jersey’s 8th district.
“In a time where the right to organize is at great risk and our hardworking union brothers and sisters are consistently being asked to work more for less, Rob Menendez will be the ally that we need and deserve in Congress,” said Hudson County Central Labor Council President Barry Kushnir.”
A Port Authority Commissioner and attorney from Jersey City, Menendez has become the clear front-runner in his bid to succeed Sires.
Sires announced last December that he would not seek re-election to the seat he’s held since 2006.
“Rob understands the needs of the working men and women that power our county every single day, and that is why we are proud to stand with him as he runs to represent us in Congress,” said Kushnir. “We look forward to getting to work to ensure that come January 2022, Rob is in Washington to fight for union labor and our rights to advocate for well-paying jobs and safe work conditions.”
International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), where Kushnir heads Local 194, endorsed Menendez last week.
“Unions are the path to success and financial stability for so many working families in Hudson County, and our union brothers and sisters will always have a friend and ally in me to ensure that opportunities are present for current and future generations to achieve the American Dream.”
Menendez has secured organization lines in Hudson and Union counties and endorsements. He faces David Ocampo and Brian Varela in the June Democratic primary.
