The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) has endorsed Robert J. Menendez for the Democratic nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 8th district.
“Menendez shares our commitment to respect, inclusiveness and the belief that all working people should have the tools to succeed,” said Barry Kushnir, the IFFPTE Local 194 president. :He will be an outstanding representative for the state and New Jersey’s 8th district.”
A lawyer and Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Menendez has quickly emerged as the front-runner for the open congressional seat following an announcement that Rep Albio Sires (D-West New York) is retiring. Sires has held the seat since 2006.
Gerry Newsome, IFPTE Executive Vice President/Atlantic Area Vice President, said that Menendez, like his father, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, “will take with him to Washington a strong belief in collective bargaining, which is critically important to New Jersey’s working families.”
“Given his strong support for New Jersey’s public sector workers and their unions, it is no surprise that he has garnered quick support across our labor movement,” said Sean McBride, the Atlantic Area vice president and Local 196 president. “IFPTE is here for him as well.”
