Alp Basaran raised $77,238 in his bid to unseat Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) in the Democratic primary, bringing in $12,407 in the 4th quarter of 2019.
Basaran has put $50,000 into his campaign and started the year with $23,962 cash-on-hand for is bid in New Jersey’s 9th district.
He spent $12,892 in the last three months of the year and has expended a total of $77,238 so far.
Basaran is one of two progressives seeking to oust Pascrell, a 12-term incumbent. Zina Spezakis, who had raised $92,930 as of September 30, has not yet filed her year-end report with the Federal Election Commission.
A first-time candidate, Basaran spent almost a decade as a corporate lawyer at Skadden, Arps and Pepper Hamilton and now runs his own firm, Aslan Capital Advisors.
Pascrell defeated 2018 primary opponent William O. Henry with 86% of the vote.
