Outside group makes another six-figure buy against Kean

Unrig Our Economy, League of Conservation Voters ad focuses on energy costs

Unrig Our Economy, a Democratic-aligned outside group, is making yet another foray into New Jersey to slam Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).

In the group’s new spot, which is being backed by a six-figure ad buy in conjunction with the League of Conservation Voters, a High Bridge resident named Michele blames Kean for higher energy bills. (Michele previously appeared in a different Unrig Our Economy ad focusing on tariffs.)

“I was shocked to learn that Congressman Tom Kean Jr. voted for a law that raises energy costs while giving tax breaks to billionaires,” Michele says, referring to last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill. “We’re working harder than ever, but we can’t keep up with these higher costs.”

Kean is expected to be a top Democratic target this November. Four Democratic candidates, each of whom has raised more than a million dollars, are running for the nomination to face him, and whoever wins may be backed up by millions more in outside spending from top Democratic groups like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the House Majority PAC.

In the meantime, though, Unrig Our Economy – which as a 501(c)(4) faces fewer disclosure requirements than a traditional super PAC – has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make Kean a softer target, running ads since last summer criticizing Kean’s voting record.
