A new TV ad released today by Rep. Tom Malinowski’s re-election campaign spears Republican Tom Kean, Jr. for his support of Donald Trump, accusing the GOP congressional candidate of being a Trump acolyte.
The ad, “No Matter,” uses a Star-Ledger editorial endorsing Malinowski – and footage of Trump speaking — to make a clear case that Kean would support Trump’ agenda in Washington, D.C.
Script: “I’m Tom Malinowski and I approved this message. No matter what Trump does, Kean has his back. Spreading lies. Cozying up to bigots. Kean does that too. Kean even traveled three hours to cheer Trump on in a hate-filled rally. There’s more: they’d both undo coverage for pre-existing conditions. They’d both take away a woman’s right to choose. Different styles, but the same where it counts. That’s why no matter what Trump does, Tom Kean, Jr. has his back.”
“Tom Kean Jr. endorsed Trump, kissed the ring at Trump’s Wildwood rally, and has voted for Trump’s same disastrous policies right here in New Jersey. He raised money for a white supremacist, and continues to traffic in dangerous, debunked lies,” said Malinowski’s campaign manager, Daniel Fleiss. “Kean can attack the press and repeat his consultant-fed platitudes all he wants, we all know exactly where he stands — with Donald Trump and never with us.”
The Kean campaign said Malinowski was desperate.
“If anyone needed more evidence that Tom Kean is winning this race, here it is,” said Theresa Winegar, Kean’s campaign manager. “This ad reeks of desperation in an eleventh hour attempt to salvage a failed freshman’s flailing campaign.”
