In his first TV ad of this cycle, Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) highlights the story of his mother’s decision to leave communist Poland and emigrate to the United States as the backdrop to his life story of standing up to bullies, including dictators, powerful corporate PACs, and Republican extremists.
Malinowski’s mother, Johanna, joins him in the new ad, “Bullies,” which features the two-term Democratic congressman narrating his own ad that emphasizes his efforts to challenge Russian President Vladimir Putin while serving as Assistant U.S. Secretary of State, and for taking on “big oil” and high prices charged by pharmaceutical companies. The ad will begin running today on cable television stations in New Jersey’s 7th district.
While the ad doesn’t mention the Republican candidate, the Malinowski campaign says that the theme sets up a contract with former Senate Minority Leader Thomas Kean, Jr., who prioritizes “Big Oil, Big Pharma and corporate PAC…over New Jersey families as he takes their campaign contributions.”
Script: (Malinowski) My mother’s strong. She brought us here from Communist Poland because she hated people with power bullying people without. I became an Assistant Secretary of State standing up to dictators like Putin. I’m still taking on bullies. I refuse Corporate PAC money because I work for you – not them. I’m going after Big Oil over gas price gouging and drug companies to lower costs for seniors. I’m Tom Malinowski. (Joanna) And I’m Joanna. (Malinowski) And bullies anywhere are why we approve this message.
“Bullies are power-hungry extremists who kick and rip-off Americans while they are down,” said Brooke Zindulka, Malinowski’s campaign manager. “Tom Malinowski is a leader New Jerseyans can depend on to have their backs and who will fight relentlessly against those taking advantage of them.
Zindulka said that Kean has “taken votes that actively hurt New Jersey families and communities” during his 20 years in the New Jersey legislature.
“That’s why Tom and our team of dedicated supporters are putting in the work to keep bullies like him out of power,” Zindulka stated.
