Rep. Josh Gottheimer’s (D-Wyckoff) campaign is launching a new last-minute ad hitting Republican challenger Frank Pallotta over purported ties to a domestic terror group.
The 50-second spot, titled “Hate,” highlights Pallotta’s refusal to denounce the Oath Keepers, a right-wing anti-government militia that the New Jersey Department of Homeland Security identified as a moderate domestic terrorism threat under Gov. Chris Christie in 2016.
During a New Jersey Globe Debate on Sunday, Pallotta declined to denounce the group before launching attacks at Antifa and Black Lives Matter.
The New Jersey Department of Homeland Security Lists the radical, right wing Oath Keepers as a Domestic Terror Group. Fraudster Frank Pallotta’s campaign advisor Bill Hayden is the head of his local Oath Keepers. This week, Fraudster Frank was asked to denounce domestic terrorism and the Oath Keepers. Here’s what he had to say:
Pallotta: Are you asking if I will denounce people who have worked with me, people I talk to every day, people who are not homegrown terrorists. That’s your label, not theirs. You’re picking a name out of the Oath Keepers, and I think you need to rethink what the Oath Keepers is. So, to answer your question, I will absolutely be friendly with anybody who wants to hear me.
Gottheimer: I think we should all stand up to hate.
Pallotta: I disagree.
Pallotta said the ad’s final soundbite elsewhere in the debate.
Hayden, who is president of the Skylands Tea Party, belongs to the group. He has appeared in several photos on Pallotta’s Facebook page, though the candidate said Hayden was not involved in his campaign.
It’s not clear where the ad will run or how much money was put behind the buy.
