Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) has launched a new TV ad featuring Tom disability advocate Tom Spadaro that touts the freshman congressman’s assistance in obtaining personal protection equipment so that a home care attendant could come back to work.
The ad, “Andy and Tom,” features Kim visiting with Spadaro and discussing the need to get PPE equipment for disabled residents of New Jersey’s 3rd district. Spadaro had contacted Kim for help.
The 53-year-old Spadaro became a quadriplegic at age 11 when he was accidentally shot in the head by a friend who was displaying a gun, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Script: “Hi I’m Andy Kim. Come on, let’s get to work. Tom is someone who knows the challenges that people with disabilities face. The biggest challenge that I have is getting care. My wife had to do it for six months on her own. Tom told me that there were a lot of people like him that couldn’t get their home attendants to come because they didn’t have masks or personal protection. Andy was able to get masks locally for people like me. I approve this message because now is the time to work together.”
Kim faces Republican David Richter in his bid for re-election to a second term.
