Somerset County Republicans awarded U.S. Senate candidate Rik Mehta the party line Monday night.

Mehta got 98 votes. Former House candidate Hirsh Singh received 40.

Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean got the party line for his seventh-district House bid.

Mehta already has the line in Union County.

Four other candidates, former Monmouth County Freeholder Gary Rich, Stuart Meissner, Tricia Flanagan and Natalie Rivera, are also seeking the nomination.

Mehta, a former U.S. Food and Drug Administration official, has raised $286,576 for his bid to run against Booker. Mehta, who entered the race on October 17, loaned $255,000 to his campaign and has $190,280 cash-on-hand.

Kean is expected to win the House nomination without much contest.

His biggest rival for the nomination, Rosemary Becchi, dropped her bid against Rep. Tom Malinowski and is now running against Rep. Mikie Sherrill in the eleventh district.

“I am grateful to the Somerset County Republican organization for their support. Alongside these great people, I look forward to big wins up and down the ballot in November,” Kean said. “Somerset County can count on me to represent their values in Washington.”
