Freshman Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) is slamming Democratic challenger Sue Altman for “frightening silence on the alarming rise of antisemitic protests occurring on college campuses across the country.”
Kean, who is seeking a second term in New Jersey’s 7th district – one of the most closely-watched House races in the nation this year – also slapped Altman for accepting the support of Rep. Pramila Jaypal (D-Washington), an anti-Israel congresswoman.
“The horrible treatment that Jewish students are experiencing on campuses across our country right now is absolutely wrong. These antisemitic protests aimed at intimidating and driving out Jewish students cannot find a haven on any college campus or anywhere in our country,” said Kean. “The perpetrators of hatred and the leaders who enable them must be held accountable. We need to make sure that students of every religion feel safe at school.”
Mendham Township Mayor Sarah Neibart criticized Altman for refusing to denounce anti-Semitic acts.
“I don’t know how Sue Altman believes she can represent our district in Congress if she cannot bring herself to stand up for Jewish Americans in the face of blatant antisemitism. Now more than ever, our country needs leaders who will actively confront and condemn hate; not deny, minimize, or cast it aside. Sue Altman – your silence is deafening.”
Altman has the backing of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which Jaypal chairs.
