Kean gains 1,100 votes in NJ-7, now trails Malinowski by 8,598

No less than 49,753 ballots still uncounted

The race for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district tightened again this morning, with Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) now leading Republican Thomas Kean, Jr. by 8,598 votes.

Kean now trails Malinowski, 197,332 to 188,734 – 51.1%-48.9%.

Hunterdon counted 2,404 new ballots on Thursday morning, cutting Malinowski’s lead by 1,100 votes since last night.

There are at least 49,753 ballots that remain uncounted in the 7th, according to an analysis by the New Jersey Globe.

On election night, Malinowski had a 28,412-vote lead over Kean, the minority leader of the New Jersey State Senate.

As of Wednesday evening, Malinowski was 9,708 votes in front of Kean.

There are about 17,220 uncounted ballots in Morris, 15,685 in Union, 13,954 in Somerset, 2,396 in Hunterdon and 500 in Essex.  The number in Warren is indeterminate.
