Kean gains 206 votes, but Malinowski still ahead by 17,277

Freshman congressman has had a big lead in NJ-7 since election night.

Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) saw his lead drop slightly on Sunday, but remains 17,277 votes ahead of Republican Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) in New Jersey’s 7th district.

On Saturday, Kean had trailed the freshman Democratic congressman by 17,483.   Kean picked up 206 votes after an updated tally in Union County on Sunday morning.

Malinowski now leads Kean, the minority leader of the State Senate, 174,800 to 157,523, a 52.6%-47.4% margin.

He was ahead by 28,412 votes on on election night.

Hunterdon, Somerset Morris, Warren and Essex counties have not released new results as of 6 PM on Sunday.

The New Jersey Globe has not called the race, although Malinowski is likely heading back to Washington.  The Associated Press has declared Malinowski the winner.
