Jacob spent $118k to get 19% of vote

Peter Jacob raised $125,969 to win 19% of the vote in the Democratic primary for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th district.  He has $7,577 left in his campaign account, and a debt of $10,000.

In 2016, Jacob won 43% of the vote in his race to unseat Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton).  Democrats went in a different direction this time, with five county organizations endorsing Tom Malinowski, a former Assistant U.S. Secretary of State in the Obama administration.

In a field that began with seven candidates, Malinoski won the primary with 67% of the vote.  Jacob finished second, followed by attorney Goutam Jois in third place with 14%.

The early front-runner for the nomination was Linda Weber, a Berkeley Heights banker who raised $387,034.  She burned through much of her money early and dropped out of the race after Malinowski beat her by one vote to score the organization line in Union County.

In all, Weber spent $358,329 and has $28,804 remaining in her campaign account.
