Gottheimer requests briefing on planned armed capitol protests

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) wants to be briefing on the threat posed by armed protests planned at the U.S. Capitol and at statehouses around the nation.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, the Problem Solvers Caucus co-chair formally requested a briefing on threat assessments for those planned demonstrations, flyers for which have been circulating in conservative circles on social media.

One such protest is planned in Trenton this Sunday.

The congressman’s request comes in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump.

“It is critically important that the deadly and damaging attack on the U.S. Capitol never be permitted to happen again, or be replicated at any of our state houses across the country.”
