Civil rights attorney Tim Alexander’s campaign for New Jersey’s 2nd congressional district was endorsed yesterday by Atlantic County Commissioner Ernest Coursey (D-Atlantic City), an influential figure in his home county.
“As someone who has always put the people first, I see in Tim Alexander a kindred spirit and a leader who genuinely cares about the well-being of every resident in the Second District,” Coursey said in a statement. “Tim’s experience and vision are what the Second District of New Jersey needs. I encourage everyone to support him in the upcoming election.”
Alexander is hoping to take on Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) in a rematch of their 2022 contest, which Van Drew won 59%-40%. In order to reach the general election, though, Alexander will need to get through a Democratic primary against tech entrepreneur Joe Salerno, 2022 Democratic runner-up Carolyn Rush, and Brandon Saffold.
Salerno, the Democratic field’s fundraising leader thanks in large part to self-funding, appears to be Alexander’s main foe. Salerno has the backing of former Atlantic County Commissioner Caren Fitzpatrick (D-Linwood), an indication that the March 17 Atlantic Democratic convention vote between him and Alexander will be competitive.
