A non-profit issue advocacy group allied with Democrats, House Majority Forward, is airing digital ads promoting support of President Joe Biden’s COVID relief plan by Reps. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) and Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes).
The two identical ads will run in New Jersey’s 3rd and 7th districts, as well as six other congressional districts around the nation.
Script: “After a really tough year, you saw we needed help and are taking action. Thank you for taking steps to help pass a strong COVID-19 Relief Package. Thank you for the extra funding so our kids can return to school safely. Thank you for expanding vaccine access and speeding up our return to normal life. Thank you for helping us stay afloat. Thanks for walking the walk, not just talking the talk.”
The ads are intended to boost support for Kim and Malinowski, two Democratic incumbents in Republican-leaning districts and come one day after the Republican-allied American Action Network purchased a billboard on I-295 in Burlington County alleging that schools in New Jersey’s 3rd district remain closed because Democrats are putting the teachers union ahead of kids. The message asks parents to contact Kim and ask him to vote for the Reopen Schools Act.
The group will also launch digital ads in the 3rd district and in 7th, asking voters to sign an online petition to get Kim and Malinowski to vote for the legislation.
The PAC is spending “high five figures” on the buy, spread out through the eight House districts.
“As we continue to battle the economic and health crises caused by COVID-19, Reps. Andy Kim and Tom Malinowski are making it clear where their priorities are: funding for vaccines, funding to re-open schools safely and immediate financial assistance for struggling families,” said Abby Curran Horrell, the House Majority Forward executive director. “As the relief bill continues to work its way through the legislative process, it’s important that we thank Andy Kim and Tom Malinowski for their work to support America’s families and use all the tools available to address the COVID-19 crisis so we can return to normalcy.”
Samantha Bullock, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee, called Kim and Malinowski “dark money frauds who only hate dark money when it’s not being used to support their own campaigns.”
“Kim and Malinowski need to condemn these ads or admit they are complete and total hypocrites,” Bullock said.
