The Congressional Black Caucus has endorsed Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) for re-election in New Jersey’s 5th district.

“Josh Gottheimer can be counted on to ensure that we are creating policies that strengthen our communities,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks, the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee Chair. “From his days working at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights to his time now in Congress, he has fought for criminal justice reform, for education and economic opportunity, for advancing voting rights, and for an end to health disparities and credit discrimination.”

Gottheimer, a two-term congressman and former Clinton White House speechwriter, faces a challenge in the July 7 Democratic primary from Glen Rock Councilwoman Arati Kreibich.

Kreibich has scored endorsements from U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and Ayanna Pressley.  Gottheimer has the backing of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Conference Leader Hakeem Jeffries, U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Gov. Phil Murphy.

“In these challenging times, Josh has made sure he supported families and frontline workers through the pandemic,” Meeks said.  “We know he will always be an ally to confront racial injustice whenever and wherever it may be found.”
