Curtis Bashaw won the organization line in Ocean County, giving him party support for U.S. Senate in the county that cast the most votes in the Republican primary four years ago.

Bashaw defeated Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, 163-49, (73%-22%), with 12 votes (5%) going to former News 12 New Jersey reporter Alex Zdan at the Ocean County Republican convention tonight.

This is Bashaw’s second convention win; he easily scored a victory in Atlantic County on Saturday.  Serrano Glassner has won conventions in Hunterdon, Union and Morris counties.

Ocean County represented 13.6% of the 2020 GOP primary statewide vote, followed by Morris (9.7%), Monmouth (9.3%), and Bergen (8.5%).

The convention also voted to certify a Republican Club in Toms River that includes GOP County Chairman George Gilmore and Dan Rodrick, the newly-elected mayor.  That means a decertification of a club allied with Mo Hill, who lost to Rodrick in last year’s Republican primary.  The Gilmore Club won, 143-80 (64%-36%).

Assemblyman Greg McGuckin (R-Toms River), a Hill ally who had been at odds with Gilmore and Rodrick, switched to the new club this week, the Lakewood Scoop reported.

Bashaw, a real estate developer and hotelier from Cape May, is making his first bid for public office.   He was the choice of the Ocean GOP screening committee earlier this month.

Ocean County Republicans unanimously voted to support Donald J. Trump for President, Reps. Christopher Smith (R-Manchester) and Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) for re-election to the House, and Manchester Mayor Rob Arace and Berkeley Township school board member Jennifer Bacchione for county commissioner.

Two incumbent county commissioners, Gary Quinn and Bobbi Jo Crea, dropped their re-election bids this week after the screening committee voted to deny them party support for another term.    The likely ascent of Arace and Bacchione to the Board of County Commissioners returns control of Ocean County to Gilmore, who returned to office in 2022.
