Citing allegations that the North Bergen political machine has registered voters who don’t live in the 33rd legislative district and that they’re filling out vote-by-mail ballots, Union City Mayor/State Sen. Brian P. Stack is asking Attorney General Matt Platkin to send election monitors into Hudson County when early voting begins next week.
“This election season has been the ugliest in recent memory. The North Bergen political machine continues to spread lies and vicious personal attacks, aiming to dissuade voters from engaging in the electoral process,” said Stack. “We desperately need help in ensuring the integrity of this election. If the process is tainted, the election results will be tainted.”
Stack said he wants independent monitors to “protect the voting rights of residents.”
The request came days after evidence appeared tying the North Bergen operation, led by Mayor Nicholas Sacco, to YouTube agitator Leonard Filipowski, aka LeRoy Truth. Hudson County View reported that two Assembly candidates backed by Sacco, Tony Hector and Frank Alonso, paid $10,000 to Truth Investigations. Stack has accused Filipowski of harassing him and his family.
