Another pair of unions endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) for governor this week.

The first, JNESO District Council 1, IUOE AFL-CIO, represents some 5,000 nurses and other health care workers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Workers United, a group that has organized baristas, rock climbing gym workers, and food service workers on college campuses, also endorsed the Democratic nominee.

“Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill knows how to keep people and our communities safe,” Elfrieda Johnson, the president of the JNESO Board of Directors, said in a release. “She understands the need to protect health care workers and to ensure that affordable care is available to all New Jersey residents, especially our most vulnerable populations.”

“The members of Workers United will not just be endorsing in this election, we will be mobilizing and spreading the word to our neighbors, families, and co-workers that Mikie Sherrill is the candidate who cares the most about working people and about the real issues,” Lynne Fox, the president of Workers United, said in a release.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO endorsed Sherrill on Tuesday.

“We want to build a New Jersey where all workers have fair wages, respect at work, and dignity in retirement. Workers United President Lynne Fox is a tireless advocate for her members both in New Jersey and beyond, and I look forward to our efforts together on behalf of working families in the Garden State,” Sherrill said in a statement.

Sherrill faces former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli in the November general election.
