A new TV ad paid for Our New Jersey, an independent expenditure group tied to the Democratic Governors Association, is up on the air with a new TV ad blasting Republican Jack Ciattarelli for voting to oppose funding for Planned Parenthood and women’s health.
The ad, “Door,” alleges that Ciattarelli would take a decidedly different approach on issues related to Abortion, pointing to his vote to limit access to birth control while serving in the New Jersey State Assembly. It will air on broadcast television in New York and Philadelphia and on statewide cable television stations.
Script: “Extremists are closing the door on our health and reproductive freedom. Our rights are under attack. In Trenton, Jack Ciattarelli voted against funding for women’s health multiple times. He opposed funding for Planned Parenthood. Ciattarelli even voted to limit our access to birth control. New Jersey needs a Governor who will stand up to the forces closing the door on our health and reproductive freedom. We need Phil Murphy.”
Our New Jersey spent about $1.45 million on the New Jersey Governor’s race in 2017, with their funding coming from the Democratic Governors Association. The PAC has been dormant until this week.
In addition, Our New Jersey contributed $1.5 million to another PAC supporting Murphy, Committee to Build the Economy. That group spent $6.5 million advocating for Murphy’s election.
The treasurer of the PAC is Stephen Hill, the chief operating office of the DGA. The local address of the PAC is based at a UPS Store in Princeton.
Typically, the DGA serves as a pass-through for dollars raised by New Jersey earmarked for their gubernatorial candidate.
It’s not immediately clear where this ad will run or how much is being put behind it.
